About VN TeamWork’s Free Health Services
Under the sponsorship of Harris County Area Agency on Aging (HCAAA) and in collaboration with Cathy Home Care, Dr. John Mai (Dashwood Health & Rehabilitation Center), Dr. Mai Hoang Tuan, Vietnamese American Pharmacy Students Society, University of Houston College of Pharmacy and College of Optometry, VN TeamWork provides free health services to seniors 60 years and older who reside in Harris County and the Katrina evacuees with FEMA ID. The services are held on the second and fourth Sunday of every month from 9 am to 12 pm at the VN TeamWork Center. The following services will be provided: · Blood pressure, Cholesterol and Blood Sugar tests: Those who intend to receive cholesterol and blood sugar tests will have to observe a morning fast. Please be aware that high blood sugar levels may indicate the possibility of diabetes, and if not treated soon with medication and proper nutrition, the situation may lead to further complications, including blindness or even death. High cholesterol can also lead to other serious health problems, including heart disease. People who think they might have these problems are encouraged to come to the health screenings, because the sooner the problem is diagnosed and treated, the more effective the treatment will be. · Foot exams: The Podiatrist will examine your feet to detect any complications due to diabetes. · Health education: The Pharmacist will answer any questions you may have about diseases and medications. · Health insurance: Low-income families with children up to 18 years of age can apply for children’s health insurance through the AmeriGroup Corporation. The insurance rates will depend on the number of family members, the income level, and family expenses. For qualified families, the fees will not be over $18 per month. Parents who are interested in applying can come to VNTW at the same date and time as above. · Osteoporosis Screenings: Bone density scans will be provided to women 60 years of age and older. The scans will help to identify elderly women who are at risk of osteoporosis. · Vision Screenings: The vision screenings will help to detect eye diseases, such as glaucoma. Without early detection and treatment, glaucoma can cause vision loss and even complete blindness. We encourage seniors and adults over 40 who have not had a recent eye exam to attend. A vision screening does not replace an eye doctor’s exam, but it can help identify people who are at risk for eye disease. If the vision screener detects a possible problem, the screener will advise you to make an appointment with an eye doctor for a full eye exam. During the screening, an attending eye doctor will help to answer any questions that you may have. In order to receive the above free health services, please bring a picture I.D., such as your Driver’s license with you. For further information on the above services, please come to the VN TeamWork Center located at 11210 Bellaire Blvd, Suite 118 at Boone, Houston, Texas 77072, across from Hong Kong City Mall, in the Fountain Square or please call 281-827-8019. của Nhóm Hiệp Lực về Dịch Vụ Y Tế Miễn Phí Với sự bảo trợ của Harris County Area Agency on Aging, Nhóm Hiệp Lực đã phối hợp với Cathy Home Care, Bác sĩ John Mai (Dashwood Health & Rehabilitation Center), Bác sĩ Mai Hoàng Tuấn, Nhóm Sinh viên Dược Khoa, trường Đại Học Dược Khoa Houston, trường Đại Học Nhãn Khoa Houston để tổ chức đều đặn định kỳ các buổi cung cấp Dịch Vụ Y Tế Miễn Phí Hàng Tháng dành cho quý đồng hương cao niên 60 tuổi trở lên cư ngụ trong quân Harris hoặc quý vị cao niên nạn nhân bão Katrina có thẻ FEMA, vào mỗi Chủ Nhật lần thứ hai và lần thứ tư của tháng, từ 9 giờ sáng đến 12 giờ trưa tại Trung Tâm Sinh Hoạt Hiệp Lực như sau: · Thứ Nhất: Đo huyết áp, đo cholesterol và đo lượng đường trong máu có kết quả ngay. Đồng hương muốn được thử đường và mỡ trong máu cần nhịn ăn buổi sáng trước khi đến thử. Xin chú ý là lượng đường cao trong máu sẽ đưa đến bệnh tiểu đường và nếu không được chăm sóc kỹ lưỡng có thể đưa đến tình trạng mù mắt hoặc mạng vong. Đồng thời lượng mỡ cao trong máu có thể đưa đến các bệnh liên quan đến tim mạch như heart attack... nguy hiểm đến tính mạng. · Thứ Nhì: Khám chân và giải đáp thắc mắc về bệnh và về thuốc. · Thứ Ba: Dược sĩ giải đáp thắc mắc về cách dùng thuốc. · Thứ Tư: Bảo hiểm sức khoẻ cho trẻ em từ sơ sinh đến 18 tuổi qua chương trình Amerikids với giá hạ hoặc miễn phí. · Thứ Năm: Khám xương cho phụ nữ trên 60 tuổi bằng máy siêu âm đặc biệt đo đậm đặc của xương (bone density scan) để có thể khám phá sớm bệnh rỗng xương rất dễ xảy đến cho các phụ nữ cao niên. · Thứ Sáu: Đến khám mắt để có thể khám phá sớm bệnh mắt bị kéo mây, hoặc bệnh tăng nhãn áp (glaucoma) thường xảy ra cho quý vị cao niên, quý vị bị bệnh cao áp huyết, hoặc bị tiểu đường. Không khám phá và chữa trị kịp thời có thể đưa đến tình trạng mờ hoặc mù mắt. Trong suốt thời gian khám mắt vision screening, nếu có triệu chứng đáng nghi sẽ có các Bác sĩ Giảng sư trường Đại Học Nhãn Khoa hướng dẫn, giới thiệu đến Bác sĩ chuyên khoa và giải đáp mọi thắc mắc nếu quý đồng hương có câu hỏi. Quý vị đang mang kính cận hoặc kính lão, nhớ mang kính theo để việc khám mắt được chính xác hơn. Muốn được cung cấp các dịch vụ Y Tế miễn phí kể trên, quý đồng hương vui lòng mang theo I.D.
